Results are qualitative and preliminary. Non-negative results should be confirmed by an accredited laboratory using a specific analytical method, such as GC–MS or LC–MS/MS.

A Clear Five-Step Testing Process

The Virex Urine Dipstick provides a straightforward method of screening for multiple drugs and drug metabolites in human urine. Follow the five steps below to prepare the device, immerse the test strips and interpret the preliminary results at the specified reading time.

1. Prepare the Test

Ensure the test card and urine specimen are at room temperature (15–30°C) before testing. Remove the test card from its sealed pouch immediately before use.

2. Remove the Protective Cap

Remove the protective cap to expose the absorbent ends of the test strips. Collect the urine specimen in a clean, dry container.

3. Immerse the Test Strips

With the test strips pointing downwards, immerse their exposed ends in the urine for 15–20 seconds, or until migration is observed. Do not immerse the strips above the upper wave line.

4. Replace the Cap

Remove the test card from the urine, replace the protective cap and place the device on a clean, flat and dry surface. Start timing the test immediately.

5. Read and Interpret the Results

Read the results at 5 minutes. Two coloured lines in the control (C) and test (T) regions indicate a negative result. A control line without a test line indicates a preliminary non-negative result. The result is invalid if no control line appears.

Important timing information: Do not interpret results after 10 minutes. Any visible test line, regardless of its intensity, should be interpreted as negative. The test provides qualitative, preliminary screening results only. Any non-negative result should be confirmed using an appropriate laboratory method.
